My blogging adventure is not very old, it will only be 6 months by the beginning of June. This is the first post I write about it.
Maybe you are just beginning a new blog like me, or maybe you are way ahead of where I am, but I know for myself that I am always very interested in reading how people started out their blog before achieving any success in traffic growth and money making. There are many success stories about people who grew their blog and made money within a couple of months, and certainly some of them are true, but most of us need to put in a lot of hard work, time and patience before seeing any results. I would like to share with you my story about why I started my blog, how I managed my first months of blogging and where I am standing today.
So Here’s How It All Started
Now and then, I check the internet for new job opportunities. I do this, not because I am unhappy in my current position, but to see what’s out there, how the market is developing, which opportunities fit my skills and how I could develop myself.
For a while now I have been thinking about starting my own business. Since I started my career, I have always been working for an employer, which allowed me to gain experience and knowledge whilst enjoying the comfort of a steady income. Now that I am growing older, I feel the need to do use my skills and experience for my own business. Instead of working for someone else’s dream, I wanted to work on my own. Now I just had to figure out what that dream exactly was….
At this moment I am still working full time and have been with the same company for the last 12 years. It’s a french hospitality company in the seminar and business event industry. Within this company I have been working together with my husband as a host couple, which meant that we lived in a castle and welcomed the seminar guests during their stay. The last years I have contributed more and more in the recruitment, development and training of the staff. Working with people and coaching them is something I enjoy very much.
Although I like my job; being a wife, a mother and a career woman, does not allow me to create the kind of work-life balance that I wish for. My working days are long, regular travel is required and I feel that I am absent from home too much.
My children are now 14 and 8 years old. Just for the record, since the 12 years that my husband and I work for our company, we have moved about 8 times. I have lost count a little. It has always been a big adventure, we had the opportunity to live in different countries and our children both speak 4 languages. Now that they get older, we wish to stabilize and give them a steady home, at least until they finish high school.
Back To The Dream
Not only it was important to me to create a better work-life balance, I also wanted to do something that I love. One of my passions is interior decoration. We bought a house last year which had to be renovated completely. We had to choose everything, from the floors, to new bathrooms, a new kitchen, new windows, colors for the walls, etc. It was a huge load of work, but a lot of fun to do. However it is not easy to start a business if you do not have any diplomas and no recommendations
For a brief moment, I have thought about picking up a study to get a diploma, but how was I am going to combine a full time job with my family life and a study?
As I was surfing the internet, I came across blogs and sites where different home office jobs were described, like virtual assistant, proofreader, content writer, social media manager, survey taker or language teacher. And that is where I saw the possibility of blogging.
In my mind blogging was something people did for fun, where they described their travel or time-away-from-home experiences. I always thought it was more something that you did when you were far away to keep your family and friends informed in some kind of travel journal.
The more I read about it, the more I came to the conclusion that people actually make a living with blogging.
This was really an eyeopener for me. I started to imagine what it would be like if I could work from home and do what I love, whilst being there for my children when they get home from school and be able to spend more time with my family.
I did not want to start a blog out of the blue, not knowing where to begin and what to write about. I also needed to find out how exactly I could make money with blogging. It took me a couple of weeks of research to learn more about the subject until I stumbled upon a review about Wealthy Affiliate.
At first, I thought this was one of these get-rich-quick-schemes, but I was triggered and continued reading the review. I realized very quickly that this was THE place to be to learn everything there is to know about making money online. I will write a separate article about Wealthy Affiliate if you are interested in knowing more about building your own online business with their program. Here I will continue describing my blogging journey up until today.

Back To The Dream Again
There is so much to tell about my blogging journey, I seem to be getting of track every time. Anyhow, my decision to start a blog was taken. With the help of Wealthy Affiliate, I learned how to create a blogging website and write blog posts.
What I love most about blogging, is the fact that I can write about anything that I am passionate about. Of course, I had to chose my niche in the beginning and it seemed obvious to me to write about different aspects of my life as a forty-something woman, wife and mother.
My blog is destined to women like me, who juggle between parenting, being a loving wife, having a career, living a healthy life, trying out new recipes, working out, creating a lovely home and all the other stuff that happens in life, and all this while looking great and never being tired!
Six months into my new adventure, I am still working full time, but have learned so much and discovered a true passion! I would not have missed this for the world.
Often times we hear that those who fail are those who never tried or those who quit and I believe this is true. Even though I am not making any money with my blog for the moment, I enjoy every minute of it. Never did I think I was capable of creating a website, writing content, learning SEO, HTML coding, plugins, widgets, etc. I am so proud of myself!
Creating content, writing blog posts and growing my Pinterest account to drive traffic to my website are on the top of my to do list. There are moments where it is difficult to be consistent in writing, especially with life happening and the lack of time due to other obligations, but I try to write at least one post a week. It will take the time it needs, but my blog will grow and I hope so will my audience.
My dream is one day to be able to say that my blog has developed into a place where my audience will find informative, interesting, useful and attractive articles. I hope that like-minded women visit my website to find an answer on a question they might have, to interact with each other, to exchange best practices or just to get away from the daily hustle for a moment.
As there is still lot’s to do before I get there, I really have to get back to it. I will keep you posted from time to time on my progress, especially when hopefully all the hard work starts to pay off 😉
I would absolutely love to hear about your blogging experience and any tips & tricks you might want to share with us.
See you soon, à bientôt!
