Breezy puff of air with that unique autumn smell has started knocking at the door, and I can feel it while standing next to my window and looking outside. I can also notice leaves started turning yellow. It’s of course the magic of fall and I am totally in love with this – even if it has just started.
There is no doubt, every season has something to delight in and enjoy when it first appears, but the season of fall has a special place in my heart for a lot of good reasons. So today, I would like to talk you about a number of reasons, 13 to be exact, why I love the autumn so much. Here we go.
1: It Feels Like a New Beginning
With the first zephyr of crusty air that blows through the trees, autumn to me, feels like the true new beginning – a change in the season and the kids going back to school once again. Yes, September doesn’t only bring new experiences for us, but it also has something special for our kids. My kids are so happy to prepare their brand-new school material, getting good habits back on track after the summer holidays and weeks of chilling and specially to see their friends again. And I would definitely say that this season is full of optimism and thrill, with nice celebrations and events such as Halloween, St Martin’s Day, Saint Nicholas and of course the end of the year festivities, Christmas and New Year.
2: The Colors
Now is the time to pack away your bright colors and say hello to autumnal tones. I’m sure that just like me many other women would also want to go with murky burgundies, intense oranges and bold reds. And many of us are going to rock dark makeup as well. Indeed, it’s the wonderful time of year to return with that dark lip or try a misty orange eye.
3: Wardrobe Change
There is no denying that when we all think of scarves, hats, boots, gloves, we just feel warm and cosy. Isn’t it true? I’ve already planned to add several new tights and warm dresses to my wardrobe in the upcoming weeks! As this is the time to put on jumpers, it’s a good idea to layer up with the cosiest of knits. And let me share that I’m extremely passionate about grey shades and autumnal tones including wine-red and orange. In my free time, I prefer wearing them with jeans and ankle boots to have a simple relaxed look. Certainly, boots are the best choice for a fabulous snugly autumnal vibe. Every year, I am really looking forward to getting out my autumnal wardrobe and putting on my favorite boots and coats, just like when you get something new from the store ????
4: Pyjama Party
It’s dark and chilly outside, and that is why many of us enjoy staying in. And this means there are no out of the blue visitors, so you can take advantage of this opportunity to get into your Pyjamas at 6pm. You can either take it as my love for pyjamas or a crazy shopper in me, but every year I buy a new set, I’m definitely going to get one this year as well.
5: Nights In
The season of fall is just the right time to ditch your nights out – it is completely okay to be unsociable in the colder months and choose to get cosy on the sofa with a good book or with Netflix. If truth to be told there is no better excuse to light a fire, take a big blanket and get warm with your much-loved person.
6: Delectable Hot Drinks
No matter what you like, be it hot chocolates, coffees or teas, fall is unquestionably the time for hot drinks. They’re full of flavour and make you feel extremely warm inside. Tell me if there is anything not to find irresistible!
7: Great food
It feels amazing to welcome back the appetizing comfort food such as jovial stews and casseroles and swapping the summer salads for hot soups. Indeed, there is nothing that can beat the comfort food. How lucky am I to have a Mr: Perfectly Parfaite who happens to be a fantastic cook and on top of that he is French….so he prepares great meals like Boeuf Bourguignon, Risotto, Blanquette de Veau, Pot au feu and Galettes…..Bon Appétit!
8: Halloween
I think lots of people are excited for Halloween. We are too! I think it is great fun to watch Halloween movies. At this time of the year, we love to decorate our home. The children get dressed up in a frightening costume and go out trick or treating’ in the neighbourhood.
9: Bonfire
Apart from Halloween, one of my other favorite events throughout the autumn is bonfire night. It’s a great time to go outside in a warm coat, big scarves and hand gloves and stand before a huge bonfire waving sparkler into the sky with all colors and sizes. I love the whiff of bonfire, don’t you? It’s so warming & comforting!
10: Autumnal Smell in the Air
The first time when you feel the smell of smoke coming from one of your neighbors’ chimney, it confirms you that autumn has arrived. And when this whiff blends with the dry leaves falling off the trees, you can’t refuse to enjoy the odor of fall in the air. And frankly speaking I can’t help to notice the way the smells change as the calendar’s pages flip by. I believe this adorable season is overflowing with unique fragrances that fill all my senses with joy.
11: Home Decoration
I do not change my entire home decoration for every new season, most of it fits perfectly throughout the year, but I do have some accessories that change with the seasons. For example, I have three glass cloches on my windowsill and in there I like to put seasonal decoration. Last week, I have bought a wooden mushroom, a small deer and some pine cones.
Also, things like pillows, plants, throw blankets and things like that can change with the season. One of the most important accessories you will always find in our house when the days get shorter and the nights longer, are candles. I love the cosiness and dimmed light that candles give. Not the perfumes ones though, and as for the color, I prefer them plain and simple, in ivory. In my opinion, it is always better to have one big decoration piece like a lantern with a big candle on your side table or on your dining table, than to have a multitude of small candles all over the place.
12: Long Walks in the Forest
How do you imagine long walks in the forest? Believe it or not but there is something truly uplifting about waking up or spending an evening taking some time to go out for a long walk in the forest. Health experts also recommend taking some out for you after a hard-hitting day at work – it for sure makes you feel good and gives you a boost up to get ready for next day. All those leaves….no matter how old we get, everyone just loves walking through the fallen leaves – personally, this reminds me of when I was young, and we went walking in the forest with my parents. Almost everyone loves a good walk in the season of fall. Also, the shades are so attractive, and it just makes you feel awe-inspiring.
13: Christmas Is Approaching!
With Christmas (the best time of the year) just around the corner, there is so much to look forward to. Whether it is about the great food, drinks, celebrations, time spent with family and friends, and a lot of gifts, everything brings so much of excitement. I am just thinking of Christmas movies, Christmas songs, decorations, having fun with kids while wrapping the gifts, parties, shopping, dining out, board games…ahhh I love every minute of it!
While I love the Indian Summer every year when I try to hold on to that last bit of Summer, I am also all set to welcome the fall with open arms. And yes, my skin is geared up to feel a freezing breeze, my legs are ready to be dressed in jeans, and I cannot wait to taste all the flavors fall food has to offer.

Please do mention them in the comment box. I’ll come back with another exciting post soon, till then keep on enjoying the season of being cosy.

This post is just too awesome I must confess. I agree with the fact you stated that every season has something delight and enjoyable when it first appears. We all enjoy the final arrival of a season and value them over again because we have experienced it for a while ago and enjoying that moment is just the best. I didn’t realize how much I have missed the Autumn until I read this post and was carried away by this 13 reasons. These are essential factors of the autumn and enjoying that moment is what I will love to do over and over again. Nice work here
Thanks for your comment Willy. I remember when I did not like the autumn that much, when I was younger. But with the years I have come to appreciate it more and more and now I am looking forward to it every year. Enjoy your autumn 😉
I agree autumn in my opinion is the best season out of all 4. Not only is it not too cold and not too hot, but it gives a nice homely vibe due to the various scents and sights in regards to it. I always be excited to break out the sweatpants and hoodies again, and making my favorite sweet potatoes is exceptional around this time.
I completely agree with you Joshua! Have a great weekend!
Wow, this is just like what I’ve always loved about autumn. I love autumn and I always anticipate its coming every year. This article is really Interesting and educative. My best part of autumn is that amazing smell it gives in the air whenever I inhale it. My girlfriend loves to walk around the forest in my fathers bush house because most times during autumn, we always take a vacation their and it always feels good. Thanks for sharing this amazing article, j love it.
That must be nice to have a bush house to get away from the daily hustle, I can imagine you enjoy it a lot! I am glad you liked the article. Have a great evening!
Right from being a kid, I have always pace autumn in high esteem because I just like everything made available by nature in this beautiful season. Being a gardener, this is the time I look forward to because it brings out that perfect color and blend of blooming flowers which takes me closer to nature. Also, various parties and outings in this period. It is just the most perfect period of the year. Thumbs up for this post because it is right spot on
Thank you Tracy! I love what you do, I think gardening must be such a fulfilling job, I am sure I would have been very happy doing that as well…..all the best to you!
I was just laughing as I was reading through this post because I was seeing of the reasons I love autumn and even the reasons my little girl loves autumn which is change of wardrobe and Christmas knocking on the door, lol. Kids will always be kids. Personally for me intend to love the colors that comes with it and no doubt the new way one will have to dress. Going shopping have never been a boring experience for me my entire life. Nice being here.
I hear you Dane, it’s the same over here, especially now that my 14 year old daughter gets the hang of shopping as well 😉
Great post! Autumn is one of my favorite times of year and you really put it all into good perspective here. It really does feel like a new beginning with all the colors (even if it’s an impending cold beginning yikes). A pajama party sounds perfect and is a great way to heighten the mood. With Halloween and other holidays around the corner, it makes for an exciting time of year. Decorations are also just around the corner. I’m wondering, what are some of your favorite Halloween decorations? Thanks for the great ideas here 🙂
I love Halloween decorations! We decorate the house with our kids and we love the pumpkins, candles and making scary biscuits. Cheers
Autumn means a few things for me. Halloween is here, oh how I love it. This is also my favourite period to get my camera out and take pictures, nature pictures because like you say, there’s more colour in autumn. I’ve been in a few bonfires during this period too and I eat a lot of good food because I stay indoor a lot. Nicely written here and I must say, autumn is one of my best seasons ever.
I totally agree John! Thanks for your comments! All the best, Karen
Awesome write-up. If there is one thing I like about autumn, it’s the fact that that it get’s less crowded outside. We introverts may not be the fans of going outside in the common sense of this word – you know, such as clubbing or perhaps hanging out with a some friends. However, we do like outdoor activities too – it’s just that they are just different from what most people prefer.
As an introvert, I love to take a walk in a shady park or sit in a quiet café nearby, enjoying a cup of aromatic coffee and reading my book. Autumn makes all this easy and possible for me.
Regards!
Hi Jordan, being an introvert too, I understand completely what you mean and feel the same way. As much as I enjoy spending time with good friends, I love my ‘alone’ time as well, reading, blogging and being outside are some of my favorite things to do! Cheers
Autumn is definitely one of my favourite seasons of all because in my family, we get to spend more time together during this period and we have so much fun. I think I need to start taking more chocolate because most of the time I only take sweets in autumn because of Halloween. The feeling of Christmas too is something to be delightful about. Nice post here. You have given me more ideas on what to do this autumn with your post. Thanks.
You are very welcome, thanks for stopping by 🙂
What a wonderful picture you paint with words. Autumn or Fall is indeed a transitional time almost as breathtaking as spring. This year will be different, as it is the first year that we have no new school term starting. All of ours have now moved on to further education, so there was no last minute rush to get the ‘essentials’, more, a laid back easing into a new a period in their lives.
I am lucky to have first view, each day, as I am normally walking the dogs by 6am. This last week has been the first time in a few months where I have had to add an extra layer. Within the next few weeks, the quilts will return and open vents will be closed as a precursor to colder times. One last lawn mow is in order before the rear garden becomes desolate and unused for about five months.
I always used to think of Autumn as a more barren time but it has grown on me over the years. Now, as you say, it is a time to enjoy some of the more unsocial aspects. Warm houses to come home to and warm clothes to wear out. I might even be able to start cooking caseroles again and stews with jacket pototoes. The only downside is the amount of leaves that will need sweeping away, if the winds allow, that is.
What a beautiful description you made of the changing season. I think everyone has their own souvenirs of the time of the year, whether it is the particular humid smell in the air, the change of colors in the nature or the family meals and evenings spend by the fireplace, I love reading how other people experience it. So thank you for sharing and enjoy your autumn!
