Most of us have a bottle of olive oil in our kitchen cabinet. It is known as one of the healthiest oils and that is why it is recommended by nutrition experts to prepare all sorts of meals.
I never use anything else in my kitchen and personally love its taste which makes me thinks of sunny holidays in Mediterranean countries.
However, it is not because we use olive oil in the kitchen, that this is the only place we can use it….olive oil can be pretty surprising!
What many people do not know, is that olive oil is an important beauty ally. Besides its culinary virtues, it also has virtues for our skin, hair, nails and feet.
In this article, I will explain why olive oil is the right choice when it comes to your beauty routine. I will explain which olive oil to chose and I will explain 10 major benefits it has for your hair and skin care. As a cherry on the cake, I will share some home made recipes for you to try out.
First Off: Why Chose Olive Oil?
Olive oil is made from the first cold press of the flesh of the olive. Did you know that the olive tree was the first tree known in the history of mankind? Already in ancient history, women used to use olive oil for a prefect skin.
It is rich in Omega 9 fatty acids, with more than 60% of oleic acid. It also contains linoleic acids, which is an omega 6 and essential to our hair and skin health and palmetic acids, which helps to protect your skin. This oil also contains antioxidants and phytosterols, which calm down inflammations et increase cell regeneration.
Olive oil adapts to all skin types, you can even use it for your baby! If you suffer from dry skin, like I do, you will particularly appreciate it. Also, I you have dyed your hair, have an irritable scalp, or nails that break, continue reading as you will find beauty tips further down the article.
Which Olive Oil Is The Best?
It is important to chose an extra virgin olive oil from a first cold press, a 100% pure, natural and biological. You can find these olive oils just about everywhere, in any supermarket (read the label carefully to check if it is a natural product), bio-shops or on the internet.

Cellulite is definitely one of the worst enemies of us women. Olive oil can be an economical and natural help against this problem. The home made scrub can be used daily in the shower by making circular movements on our thighs, belly and buttocks and will give great result.

See the difference???
I have a 14-year-old daughter and she sometimes suffers from some skin issues ( a.k.a. pimples) and we have tried the following mixture which was really helpful as well.
We took a tablespoon with salt and added a couple of drops of olive oil to it. She applied it directly on her pimples and let it rest for 10 minutes. Rinse well afterwards. When necessary, she repeats it 3 times a week. There’s a real difference to see; her skin looks smoother and healthier than before.
5. Make Up Remover
Cleaning your skin each night is essential if you want to keep your skin young and healthy. But it is not always easy to find the right make up remover that does not irritate your skin and eliminates your make up correctly.
Well listen up: it is not necessary to buy chemical make up remover products anymore, you should give olive oil a try. It removes all make up without agressing your skin and is adapted for all skin types. Olive oil even nourishes your skin while you take off your make up AND it helps fade away your crow’s feet wrinkles when you mass it softly into your skin.
We have a winner!
How to use it?
Or you put some olive oil in your hands and you mass it on your skin, taking away the make up. Or you put some of it on a cotton pad and clean your skin with that. Take a clean cotton to wipe of the excess oil. It is not necessary to rinse, as the oil will continue to nourish your skin during the night.
6. Beautiful Eyelashes
Do you have short and straight eyelashes? Than this is for you!
If you want to boost the growth of your lashes and you want to give them more volume, you should try out these two grandmother’s recipes:
- Give your eye lashes a weekly massage with olive oil. It might look little strange, but I promise you, you will see the results rapidly!
- Another tip for after you have cleaned your face in the evening, is to put some olive oil on a clean mascara brush and to apply it to your eyelashes. You can do this every night to boost your lashes and get killer eyes!
7. Hair Mask
Olive oil has been used in cosmetics for years already. Some of us swear by its virtues for our hair care; your hair gets hydrated, shiny, flexible, thicker and it would even help your hair from falling out.
If you want to enjoy these virtues too, treat yourself to a hair mask!
Here’s how it goes:
In a bowl, mix 2 egg yolks with 2,5 glasses of olive oil. Apply the obtained mixture on your hair and let is rest for one hour at least. Wash your hair afterwards, which you can also do with your:
8. Natural Shampoo & Conditioner
For your natural shampoo, you can use the same ingredients as above for the mask. You just have to adapt the quantities of the ingredients:
You need 5 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Leave it in for a couple of minutes and rince your hair.
A small amount of olive oil can replace any expensive hair conditioner anytime! Thanks to its nutrients, it will untangle, hydrate, nourish and illuminate your hair! It will also keep your hair from getting frizzy (ugh, hate that!)
How to use it?
Put some olive oil in the palm of your hands and apply it to the lengths of your hair (not on the roots, it will make your hair greasy). Let it in for about 10 minutes and rinse your hair. Repeat 3 times a week.
9. Nail Care
Our cuticles need to be cared for as well! Olive oil softens and hydrates them. Just rub some olive oil with your fingertips on the cuticles and mass them softly. This is an easy beauty tip that can be done while watching your favorite Netflix show.
As far as your nails are concerned, it is not because olive oil is fat, that we cannot use it to strengthen our nails.
All you have to do is put your fingernails for 10 minutes into a bowl of olive oil and the juice of half a lemon. You’ll see the difference as your nails get stronger, harder and more resistant.
10. Lovely Feet
Our feet suffer! They have to carry us around the whole day, often on high heels, and most of the time, we do not really take very well care of them, compared to everything else! We take them for granted, where we should give them a little more loving…
There is a remedy for our little feet in the form of a massage, just for them!
How to prepare?
- In a bowl, put 3 Ts of olive oil
- 1 ts of sugar
- a couple of drops of essential lavender oil
Mass it in your feet and relax!
