It’s well said “Laughing louder and loving longer lead to a happy life”. Well, I agree to this. What do you say? Have you fused these two together ever before?
Let me share something with you: I once thought that having a graduation degree and scoring good marks would make me in high spirits. Here, one thought also took place in my head that a world tour would leave me feeling contented. And getting a first-class job and buying a dream home would make me happy and at ease.
Of course, they all did, but just for a moment. We all should know that everything comes with a running out date and that is true. Right? Okay.
From my life’s personal experience I can say that if we are not able to appreciate the whole thing we already have in our life, then we can’t be truly happy ever. Now, you might have a question that if happiness is what you wish for, why not take a shortcut and achieve that directly? That is natural to think but keep in mind that once you stop putting things on hold and learn to say no to letting external circumstances tell how you feel, you’ll realize that happiness doesn’t come about by chance, it comes about by choice. All in all, it is an ability that anyone can develop by following the below talked about life changing habits.

10 Life Improving Habits for a Cheerful and Rewarded Life
1. Rejuvenate Yourself Every Morning
The fact is that mornings set the pitch for the rest of the day. My good morning routine always leaves me feel focused, thrilled, and all set to take the responsibilities. In this contemporary age and day, we move our bodies lesser, and certainly this affects our physical and mental health to a great extent. So, what is important is to work out on a regular basis. And remember, it is not just for those who are obsessed with their bodies and personality. For you, it is good to know that work out releases proteins as well as endorphins in our brain that makes us feel more contended. Not merely this, but it also makes us more creative at work. Furthermore, if you are too busy to go to the gym or join a fitness club, ten minutes of well-scheduled work out might be all you need.
Also, as we know that eating healthy is important for living healthy, it is always recommended to drink more water, practice cooking, increase whole grains & green vegetables, eat less meat & artificial junk foods, and say no to alcohol and tobacco as well. No doubt, what we decide to eat not just have an effect on our well being, but also our moods.
Meditate, do yoga, write a list of all things you love, watch inspiring movies & videos, or listen to your beloved song prior to you leave the house. This way, you’ll set yourself up for a great day!
2. Try To Accept Things
Do you agree that things don’t always go as we plan? Earlier, I used to get annoyed when my friends made changes to what we had planned or when the bus arrived late. But refusing to go along with things never changed anything. When I started accepting whatever came about, I relieved myself from pointless distress. So, I would advise starting accepting things and to adjust new circumstances without provoking them with negative emotions.
3. Live in the Present
Believe it or not but your present time is the only place where you can experience pleasure and everything for that matter. This is one of the best self-improvement tips I got from my mother – my inspiration. Now, you might be thinking “Well, it is obvious”. But realizing this completely changed my life. In this present moment, I think better, feel better, and perform better.
4. Listen Carefully
When we make and maintain the habit of listening with focus & compassion, it gets better the way we live our life. Our 100% attention towards people make them feel special and think that we care about them. And here it would not be wrong to say that listening carefully is an influential source of contentment, as it creates sturdy bonds between people and places. No matter, it is your co-worker, partner, or a complete stranger on the road; always choose to be more present in each and every conversation.
5. Bank Money for Making Memories
If we talk about material things, these might make us happy on a temporary basis, but experiences are what make us contented for many years to come. For the last few months I’ve barely purchased anything new. In its place, I used that money for travelling. Just thinking about the coastal walks in Brittany and spending the weekend with my family in a cottage in the countryside puts an incredibly gigantic smile on my face. So, always keep some money for experiences that will make you sound ”wow” when you remember them.
6. Make New Friends and Let Things Go
Many people tend to avoid making friends after they turn twenty. But trust me when you make new friends you actually grow as a person, have new experiences, and enjoy a well-off social life. So, just go and friendly talk with an unfamiliar person; perhaps you make a new and good companion for a lifetime.
No one can deny the fact that letting go the things is not always easy. But for sure it is the merely way new & better things can accompany you. And there is no question in that when we allow going something, we get a great serenity. The fight ends here and new ideas as well as viewpoints can start to open up. It is good to unleash what doesn’t helped you like always complaining, comparing yourself to others, disapproval, etc.
7. Learn To Appreciate The Small Things and The People Around You
When did you consciously appreciate someone last time? Well…..you don’t remember? There is no question in that appreciation feeds joy at all times. I deeply have faith in this and so this morning, when I woke up, I was thankful for my bed, my friends, and my Mr. Parfait for always being a supportive pillar in my life. What is more, it also brings light to what matters in our life. Indeed, the more you show appreciation, the more you will come across things to be grateful of. I’ve maintained a gratitude journal to jot down all the things I feel appreciative for. So, just start appreciating at least 3 things in your daily life when you wake up and go to sleep.
8. Dream Big and Work Hard To Achieve Them
Indeed, dreams are always good and they encourage us for doing well life – I made it one of my daily happiness habits. And I, therefore, can say that dreams have ability to cheer up our spirit, stimulate our mind, and give us reasons for living. We all should dream big and have faith in that we’ll turn it into a reality one day. Thus, imagine and create the belief of doing and achieving everything you wish for.
And it is important that you make every possible effort and invest time on what you want to see grow. Go step by step to take you to the level you dream of.
9. Simple Life Is Equal To Happy Life
You may disagree but I think there are a lot of advantages for having less stuff, as it is believed that too many options make us dejected. And too much activity diverts our mind, makes us full of strain, and we feel unfulfilled. And when it comes to too much food, it makes us overweight and destroys our well being. And here the list goes on, goes on, and goes on…
But less is always more! Yes, you hear it right. And here it is for the reason that we all fear of dropping a chance, a companionship, or giving away our favourite shirt we paid out a lot of money for but put it on only once 2 years back. Well, the issue is that we don’t understand how much this propensity is actually holding us back and stuffing up our life.
Below are a few of the simple yet important things you can try to do:
- Fix a holiday for cleaning your house and give or throw away half of the things that you hardly ever used in the last 2 years.
- Close all the extra tabs open in your browser. Tell me if you are really going to read all that material.
- Think of at least three people you no longer want to meet as they don’t add anything to your life. Don’t worry; you are not being selfish here.
- List down at least three activities you feel like to say “no” to.
It’s just fantastic to feel the space that is freed up for the most important things in life.
10. Think You Have Plenty and Are Not Short Of Things
Did you know how we see the world depends exclusively on our insight of it? And that is true. When you live in scarcity, you defend and save. But when start giving away, it shows that you have more than sufficient for on your own. You should never think that you get enough love. Instead, you should give love to others. Similarly, you should not think you make enough money. Instead, you should give money to somebody who actually needs it.
Last but not least, you will definitely feel great when you claim your joy once and for all. And I can bet on it!
Pleasure is not about having all the bits in place or to have a trouble-free life. In its place, it is about being capable of enjoying where you are, anyway.
So, today’s tip for you is: Never leave your pleasure to chance. Decide to claim it and live the life you are worthy of living. Be happy and feel fulfilled!
A bientôt!
Karen
I love your advice. I especially love my own morning routine as it gives me something to look forward to! I love the early hours when I can get stuff done without people interrupting me. It is a great time to workout, but an excellent time to enjoy your bacon and eggs.
Your advice of letting things go is very good. In the past when I held on to things that may have hurt my feelings, I think the only one that was harmed was myself. I wasn’t able to enjoy life as much when I was feeling hurt and it was my own choice!
Hi Melinda, I agree, I used to be like that as well and took everything personally. Now I try not to let it get to me and I feel much better! All the best to you!
Very informative article for everyone who wants to be happy in life. You explain everything very well and I like all of those habits which you said we need to stay in happy. I personally believe we all should follow these. Most of the time we can see, when we compare our life with others that creat problem and take happiness away. We should always keep happy with what we have. Satisfaction is the most important element of happiness as well as other habits which you mention in this article. Thanks a lot for sharing with us such valuable lessons.
You are welcome Nazmun, thanks for dropping by!
I really like the list you have made here. And my favorite one is simple life is equal to a happy life. Because I think we get stressed up sometimes for things that are not so important in our lives and our health is affected badly. I think we need to embrace a simple life and hard work. We need to get what we need and not what we want. Just by applying those simple decision our lives will be perfect.
Thanks
And by getting what we need, we realize that we actually do not need that much! This concerns our nutrition as well as all material stuff. I love the simple life! Thanks for reading my article!
Karen, this is a great list of 10 habits. My favorite is #3, live in the present. Being mindful of today lessens the thoughts of regret for what happened in the past and lessens the stress of what will happen tomorrow. But more importantly, living in the present helps us be more aware of the current moment. This has important safety aspects. Being safe in public means being aware of and paying attention to our surroundings. Also, in and around our homes, paying attention lessens the likelihood of an accident like falling down the stairs or even bumping our foot on a piece of furniture.
…..And it keeps our minds clear of all the overload of information and negative things out there, which just bring more stress into our lives. Let’s keep it simple and be Happy!
I must say these are some of the best tips to living happily. May people neglect these little things and focus on the big ones without the knowledge that these little things matters alot. Most importantly the aspect of developing ones mind. Focusing on developing ones mind is the biggest way to improving ones happiness, see the good part of things, kill every bad energy within you, wish yourself the best and have great confidence that you deserve what you have earned. I love these nice tios you have given here and would gladly recommend this post to anyone. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Chloe, you are very welcome and thank you for your comments. Have a great day!
Good Morning Karen,
Thank you for the 40-something, well, I am 40 plus, plus-something but life is good.
Nice that you have traveled and lived in many countries these past 15 years, it really opens up one’s horizon. It happened to me too but at that time I was 15 years when I started to move around. I have fond memories of those learning years. Actually one never stops learning as I experience myself.
I was curious what your 10 life-improving habits would be so I quickly started reading your post.
You are right, often the journey to achieve something is nicer than really getting it, soon one will want something new. I gave up smoking years ago, eat mainly healthy things, no junk food but I have to have my glass of red wine in the evening. As I live in the south of Spain that is allowed.
Yes, we should try to keep certain flexibility as life does not always unfold as we wish. No benefit for remembering the bad things from the past, do some dreaming and visualization about the future but most importantly enjoy and feel grateful for the present.
I am happy that my life is full of wow memories and when times are a bit more difficult these memories do help.
The big wardrobe cleaning action is on the list. Section by section I hang the clothes outside and clean the inside of the wardrobe, a real mammoth job. I am always happy when it is done and I now can do things in my garden which I definitely prefer
.A good clean up once a year is needed. It makes you feel quite content you did it. It is a fact that I have plenty, there are many people in this world who are less fortunate.
Regards, Taetske
Hi Taetske, Thank you for dropping by and reading my article.
How funny that generally we realize all these things when we get older, after having experienced so many different things. But you are right that we should never regret any past events, we learn something from every situation and we should always try to see the positive side of everything!
As for the cleaning up, I find that as soon as my house and wardrobe are cleaned up, my mind is as well. It’s a very satisfying feeling. Having that said, I’m off to clean up my kitchen cabinets!
Have a great day!
